2023 - January Beacon

North Channel Yacht Club January 2023 Beacon

From the Flag Commodore Brian Fringer

Vice Commodore P/C Rick Romatz Rear Commodore Bill Burkhardt

This year we are going to keep the tradition, that we started this past year, of having one complete message from the Flag versus duplicating comments with individual articles. We will attempt to address the critical issues of the club and keep everyone informed of the upcoming events. We would like to welcome everyone to the 2023 season and wish everyone a Happy New Year. It is an honor for Rick, Bill and myself to serve as your Flag Officers this year. We also wanted to send a special thank you to Past Commodore Dale and his Lady Colleen for making 2022 a fantastic year. They did a great job serving the club and providing leadership to keep our great club moving forward. We would like to remind everyone that NCYC is a private, members-only, working club. As a working club, please remember we are working toward a common goal that creates strong bonds and lifelong friendships. NCYC is a great big family and we need to remember to treat everyone with respect. We have a lot that needs to be completed prior to the Fitting Out weekend on Friday May26th, 2023. Please watch for communication regarding the dates for Elite Brigade and normal work parties. The planned projects are:

● Robinson Seawall and new walkway ● Installing new Pedestals ● New garage and outside walk-in cooler ● New walkways south and west of the Boutique Yes, our plate is very full and we will need lots of help to pull this off.

Our Fleet Captain’s, Shelly and Gary Schroka have three great rendezvous planned this year. The dates and locations are listed below. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending. They are going to be fantastic. Details including how to make reservations to follow soon. ● June 23 rd – June 25 th – South Channel Yacht Club ● July 14 th – July 16 th – Metro Beach ● August 11 th – August 13 th – St. Clair Boat Harbor

As we prepare for the Spring, please stay engaged and look for opportunities to volunteer, participate and use your talents to make the greatest club on the water even better. We welcome all your ideas and expertise to ensure all our projects are successful. Thank you to everyone in advance for your dedication this year and we look forward to moving our club forward.

Brian Fringer

A Message from Chaplain Mark Javery

NOTES FROM CHAPLAIN MARK JAVERY

Since our last Beacon was published I am not aware of any new hospitalizations or illnesses in our NCYC family. Praise be to God that most of our membership who had been hospitalized for illnesses and procedures are now home recovering. Your thoughts, prayers, and acts of concern were/are so appreciated. And yet as 2022 draws to a close I reflect on so many Fan-Outs I sadly sent out this year that notified our membership of those in our membership and their families that have passed. Keep those who have lost loved ones in your prayers and continue to reach out to them however appropriate to convey your love.

His Unfailing presence

Another year I enter, its history unknown; Oh, how my feet would tremble to tread its paths alone! But I have heard a whisper, I know I shall be blest; “My presence shall go with thee, And I will give you rest.” What will the New Year bring me? I may not, must not know; Will it be love and rapture, Or loneliness and woe? Hush! Hush! I hear His whisper; I surely shall be blest; “My presence shall go with thee, And I will give thee rest.”

Author unknown

Wishing our NCYC family a healthy and blessed New Year. I close with the Word of our Lord as we enter an unknown 2023.

Philippians 4:8 “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Member of the Month

Mark Javery

The North Channel Yacht Club Board of Directors has recognized Chaplain / Director Mark Javery as Member of the Month for December 2022. As a Membership we experienced an overwhelming amount of Loss and Illness to our Members or family members in November and December leaving us with the need of thoughts and prayers from others, Our Chaplain Mark Javery jumped right in and reached out to our Members in need of Prayer and encouragement and was able to get the proper information out to the rest of our Members so they could do the same with condolences and well wishes. For this we Thank You Mark for all that you do for North Channel Yacht Club and welcome you to the Order of the Anchor.

We care about your community. Because it’s our community too.
