APRIL 2015 BEACON
Rear Commodores Comments…
Old Man Winter refuses to say good bye, breathing his cold breath upon us, refusing to let the ice melt. He continues to tease us with an occasional few warm days but refuses to let warmth become the norm. The ice will slowly melt away, hopefully in time for us to reach the island before Easter. The Flag plans on visiting the club on April 4 th , viewing firsthand how she has endured another harsh Michigan winter. With spring comes the reality of what needs to be accomplished in six short weeks. Beyond the annual tasks of preparing the Fins, harbors, clubhouse and grounds, we also have to finish the floor repair in the kitchen, the commissioning of the new generator, and the installation and start up of our new air conditioning/heating units. All of the above mentioned tasks require a tremendous number of work hours to complete. Plan on attending several Elite Brigade and/or regular work parties and lending a hand in helping to get the Island back into the showpiece that she truly is. The camaraderie and friendships that are created by attending and participating in these spring work parties are a large part of what makes our club the unique and special place that it is. When all is said and done, we keep our dues and costs to a minimum by performing the majority of our maintenance tasks with member donated labor. One would be surprised by the talent pool we are blessed with at NCYC, yet we are always looking for and welcome new skills and abilities. Member participation is what moves our fantastic club forward, why not come out and find out for yourself. RC Pat
