APRIL 2015 BEACON
Vice Commodores Comments…
April is upon us and I am trying to get the winter projects finished inside the house to move on to getting our boats cleaned, waxed, polished, and prepared and ready for another boating season. But wait a minute…we must first get our great clubhouse and grounds ready to receive our boats, families, and friends. Once again Darryl Campbell is preparing to put a Finn in the water for the NCYC elite brigades. Watch the fan-outs for the dates to start that work. The Board members are starting to plan and order materials for the work parties. I am looking forward to seeing each of you at the island. The scheduled work parties are May 9 th and May 16 th . This is a great time to put in your 4 hours of work-or-pay. Tradition has us meeting for breakfast the morning of the work efforts keep an eye out for the times and locations. New member interviews for the applications in hand are almost done for the year. We have several new members for 2105. If anyone has any friends or family that would be a good addition to the club—please get them an application very quickly. We want them all on board to participate in the opening weekend ceremonies. We have room for all that you can bring, the more the merrier. On Sunday March the 8 th , Commodore Brian and his wife Renee, Sandi and myself, and Pat and Nancy Carroll attended “The Blessing of the Fleet” at Mariners Church in Detroit. This is the second time Sandi and I attended this ceremony. Both times, it was a very humbling and moving service. There are many commercial mariners, captains, and representatives of numerous Boat and Yacht clubs participating in the event, blessing their flags and burgees. This is a great way to kick off the boating season. We hope this blessing of the NCYC flag keeps all of us that fly it safe on the water this year.
