March 2021 Beacon
From the Bridge – Commodore Glenn Nixon Sheila and I hope this finds all of our members safe and healthy. We continue to watch, pray and patiently wait for the COVID-19 threat to moderate and loosen its grip on our lives and businesses. The plan for the Commodore's Ball to be held at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester on April 30th will likely be changed in favor of some type of event at the Club. We are staying optimistic we can have a formal event that will
help us maintain our traditions and will be enjoyable for all.
Planning for rendezvous for this coming season have proved to be very challenging. Our Fleet Captains Scott and Michele Goemmel have been reaching out to numerous venues with little success in getting commitments. We know for certain we will need to find an alternative to MacRay Harbor for the June rendezvous as MacRay has decided to no longer offer transient dockage. The only venue that has made commitment are Lexington Harbor for the weekend of July 23-25 and St. Clair Harbor for the weekend of August 13-15. Continue to watch for fanouts from Fleet for updates. We had our first meeting of the Board of Directors on January 14th. Chaplain Mark Javery did the honors of swearing in the entire group of Directors and Flag Officers. We discussed and agreed action plans for a number of tasks to address critical issues with our Clubhouse and grounds, such as solving the problem of standing water under the clubhouse, the erosion problem along the Genow near the swimming area, backfilling along the new walkways and repairing the A-Dock extension. We also approved membership for a number of our committees. We did go forward to finish all the committee approvals in the February Board meeting on February 11th along with progressing the many urgent repair projects. You can find details in the minutes of the January meeting in this March Beacon.
