May 2024 Beacon

A Message from Chaplain Mark Javery

Since our last Beacon was published our NCYC family has suffered loss. In April our Member and First Mate Virginia Isbill Passed. The Beacon I had prepared until hours ago asked for prayers for Virginia’s family and her husband, our brother Otto who had just been diagnosed with cancer and had entered hospice care. I have just been advised that our brother, Otto Isbill passed into eternal rest, joining Virginia, on the evening of May 15th. Suffering the grief of this loss is not only their immediate family but also two memberships in our NCYC family, the Nagaj family and Sullivan family part of Virginia’s extended family. Pray for the comfort only God can provide for the Isbill family, and their extended family during this time of earthly loss. Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. Since we are blessed to be returning to our island home, as we interact with each other, show God’s love and kindness to one another as you never know what someone could be dealing with. I try to remind myself daily of this. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

Although not always possible due to varied earthly circumstances, I pray everyone had a happy and blessed Mother’s Day. Mothers are one of God’s greatest gifts to us. It’s a mothers’ care, concern, touch, and love that can give us a glimpse of God’s comfort. Through our mothers’ sacrifices we can get a glimpse of the depth of His perfect love. One thing I’m sure of is, in God’s sight, every mother, and every woman is a special cherished creation. When you read God’s word it is very clear that mothers and women have a special place in His heart and will always play a role in His story of our redemption. God bless all our NCYC mothers! Looking forward to seeing everyone on the island over our Opening - Flag Raising - Memorial Day weekend. We will honor those in our NCYC family who have passed over the last year and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Harbor & Grounds Good day fellow NCYC members, I hope you all are doing well and ready to enjoy a safe and fun 2024 boating season. My admiration and respect for those that have served our members continues to amaze me. Although the weather has not been favorable, the first two Elite Brigades were well supported by the usual soldiers. Amazing how they show up and jump right into the tough stuff. So much to learn and so much knowledge in the ranks.

Plenty of projects in the works. Thank you, Steve Murray, for your leadership on this initiative. Once the necessary work is completed to open the island, we will turn our focus on maintenance and enhancements. Again, we welcome and encourage feedback and suggestions that you feel may benefit our members.
