2022 North Channel Yacht Club Membership Roster
2022 Membership and Fleet Roster North Channel Yacht Club Built in 1866 Established in 1964 Southwest corner Intersection of the North Channel Tributary to the St. Clair River and the Chenal A Bout Round Near Algonac, MI Island Phone: 810-794-0000 and 810-794-0100 www.ncyconline.com Commodore Dale Hall 7378 Flamingo St. Clay, MI 48001
Historical Marker
1869 – The North Channel mainland and island were very isolated. The Pointe Tremble Prairie (now called St. John’s Marsh) isolated Pearl Beach and Algonac from Fair Haven. There was a passenger service from steamer from Mt. Clemens to Pearl Beach
and Algonac. There was an abundance of game, and North Channel Shooting Club was established in 1869. The original clubhouse was partially destroyed by fire. In 1878, the clubhouse was rebuilt. The new register has the first entry on March 17, 1878. The North Channel Shooting Club was among the first, or possibly the first, club in the flats area. The first president, Marcus Stevens, was also a member of the Old Club.
The main activity at the club was hunting and fishing. In 1923, prohibition reduced use of the club. In 1940, an active club member purchased the club and operated it as North Channel Hotel. In 1968, Chrysler Management Club purchased the club to operate it as Chrysler Yacht Club. In 1981, the name was changed to North Channel Yacht Club.
Commodore Dale Hall The North Channel Yacht Club (NCYC) is located on an island at 42 37.59’ North & 82 38.74’ West which is in the Northeast corner of Anchor Bay on Lake Saint Clair. NCYC is nestled within 25,000 acres of the Saint Clair Flats which is one of the largest fresh water deltas in the world. It provides excellent boating, fishing and watersports through deep water areas from the North, Middle and South C hannels of the St. Clair River.
NCYC has much to offer and is a great destination for someone that wants to get away for the weekend or simply have a place to stop after a long day on the water. The air-conditioned clubhouse provides excellent accommodations including internet, cable television, children’s play area, commercial kitchen and room to relax. The island has full hook-up for over 80 boats as well as a children’s playground, horseshoe pits, a basketball court, barbeque grills and tons of room to stretch out and relax under a shade tree. Membership at NCYC is easy. My wife, Colleen and I had the same reaction that many people have when they boat past NCYC. It is a beautiful place with a lot of curb appeal when viewed from the North Channel. This causes many to think it is too expensive. NCYC is a working club. One of the great things about a working club is how reasonable the dues are for our members. A working club also provides pride of ownership for members when they complete a project and add to the beauty of the island. NCYC provides convenience that many other clubs do not. The parking lot on Anchor Bay Drive and the shuttle boat that can take you to the island
makes it easy to attend events even if boating to the club is not an option on any given day. The availability of the club every day makes membership even more valuable. The island opens on Memorial Day weekend and does not close until October. During the week the clubhouse is open and managed by members just as it is on weekends. There is nothing quite as relaxing as a smooth boat ride across Lake Saint Clair during the week or after work with this destination in mind. Let the North Channel Yacht Club be your destination. If you are a member, invite the high-quality people in your life to join you for an evening. If you are a guest, take the opportunity to spend an evening with a member and let the relaxing atmosphere, fellowship and outstanding sunsets over Lake St. Clair convince you. NCYC is a million miles away, just across the lake.
See you on the Island, Commodore Dale Hall
Vice Commodore Brian Fringer The North Channel Yacht Club is a little piece of Heaven just up the Channel. “The Island” is what many of us call it and its beautiful five acres provide a warm, welcoming sanctuary. North Channel Yacht Club has something for everyone, from the family atmosphere, to the Clubhouse, the full year- round calendar of events, themed parties, kid’s activities to just relaxing on the back of your boat or an evening socializing at the bar.
I first experienced North Channel Yacht Club on a brisk, Saturday morning when I was invited to come to a work party. Like me, you may be thinking work and party don’t usually go hand in hand, but everyone was so welcoming and friendly and although it was hard work, it really was a party. I was impressed by the North Channel Yacht Club and the members that day as they collectively came together to work on a project to improve their beloved club. Participating in and contributing to the North Channel Yacht Club has become one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my life! As a working club, the members have great pride and working toward a common goal creates strong bonds and lifelong friendships. Welcome to those of you who are first-year members, I am anxious to meet and get to know you. I encourage you to immerse yourself in the wonderful offerings and activities this boating season. Each member of North Channel Yacht Club brings their unique talents and contributions that are essential to making the club successful and enjoyable. Here at North Channel Yacht Club there are no strangers, only friends you haven’t met yet!
Vice Commodore Brian Fringer
Rear Commodore Scott Greenfelder Welcome to the best kept secret on Lake St. Clair. Whether you’re a new boater or a master mariner, let me introduce you to my little oasis. North Channel Yacht Club is a private, member’s only yacht club. At first glance you may begin to feel the lure of her charm. It is meticulously and respectfully maintained with love by the members at large. This is the first thing that makes us special. Many other clubs and facilities are
beautiful in appearance, but what sets this club apart from so many others is the sweat equity and pride that is ever apparent in every corner of the five -acre retreat. The island is a member run club and you’ll be hard pressed to find a single member that cannot share with you a project, event or experience that contributed to their special connection to this magical place. We all have our story. My wife Nicole and I first visited the island many years ago as guests. We were smitten the minute we arrived. We didn’t own a boat. By the end of the night, we had submitted our application for membership and the rest is history. We built our foundation by joining in and signing up for every possible event we could. I encourage you to be a part of our membership and do the same. We met and established friendships quickly and learned yet again of the many rewards this wonderful club has to offer. Being members of North Channel Yacht Club has been one of the best decisions my wife and I ever made. North Channel Yacht Club membership is equally as special as the island itself. You will
never have a dull moment or a boring conversation. Our members are diverse, both geographically as well as socially. No matter what the occasion, you will most likely always leave the island feeling enriched or smiling over the last day’s event. Whether it’s pierogi making, rib cooking, wine tasting, or simply sitting on a comfortable chair, watching the boats go by with a cold drink in hand, you will find something that interests you and makes you want to come back again and again. I encourage you to feel comfortable and strike up a conversation with your fellow club members. You will surely not regret it. I am so proud and honored to be your Rear Commodore and personally invite you throw out a line, tie up and stay a while. Rear Commodore Scott Greenfelder
Chaplain Comments: Mark Javery
North Channel Yacht Club is so much more than a historical building sitting on the North Channel and the Sni Bora Waterways in Clay Township, MI The world we live in today fills our lives daily with worry, hate, noise, uncertainty, and chaos. Then there is the stress of trying to balance our family, work, and spiritual lives. For us, NCYC has been a God-Send. It is close to home but seems a world away. As God is our spiritual refuge for our soul, our island, which is a beautiful example of God’s creation, is a refuge for our earthly bodies. It is a place you can pray,
reflect, and cast your worries away. Like the clear blue waters flowing past our island, let it go… We are blessed with the fellowship and camaraderie of our membership as we work and play together with the common purpose building relationships along the way. The essence of life is in our relationships with God and others. Do take time for the simple joys of life. Enjoy the island, take a deep breath, and simply ‘be’. Our North Channel Yacht Club is more than a physical place, it is the membership. For these things we are truly blessed.
