NCYC Regular Meeting Minutes August 17, 2023 Page 4 of 12

Request from Lisa Berry:

To Whom it May Concern:

My husband and I are both signed up for 8 hours each but as you may recall I am still healing from a left knee injury. I tore my ACL, LCL and Meniscus after falling. I went through intense physical therapy and I’m healing but I will not be able to stand for 8 hours as I have in the past doing bar service. I have come a good ways but I have a ways to go, they say it can take a year or more, I don’t want to suffer any setbacks. I am still using a knee brace and cane for uneven/unfamiliar ground.

I appreciate your consideration.

Board disposition: Secretary to email Ms. Berry, referencing NCYC Policy which states 20 hours work requirement is applicable to the “Membership”, not the individual Member. Waiver denied.

Received from Member:

To the Board of Directors,

I would like to make you aware of a very unfortunate situation that occurred last evening at NCYC in the clubhouse. Just going to state the facts: At about 7p, Keith and I arrived with Dave and Debbie Lockhart. We docked in the guest wells. Brought them to NCYC to say hello and visit with Brian Malik and Lori Abry, in town from their Florida residence, who were working finn and bar last night. When we entered the clubhouse, the (4) of us stopped at the bar window to see Lori, who was right there (not serving anyone else at the time). Meanwhile, several members/friends came and said ‘hi’ to the (4) of us, preventing us from immediately proceeding down the hallway to the guest book for sign in. However, in less than the 2 minutes that we were standing there with other members, the Fleet Captain and the Commodore (separately) approached the GUESTS (not us, but our guests directly) and said they needed to sign in. Dave went to sign in, signed in as a guest of Brian Malik (who, as I mentioned earlier, they came to say ‘hi’ to - and is the member). The GUEST (again, not us, or Brian Malik, but the guest directly) was approached again by the Commodore, and said he needed to put Lori Abry’s name down as ‘guest of’, not Brian Malik . Lori overheard this from behind the bar, stepped in and reminded the Commodore that Brian was present, but was fulfilling his work obligation and was driving the finn at that particular moment. Jeff Edgerly (Weekend OD) also was present and asked what was all the commotion about; Jeff acted totally respectfully and as OD wanted to understand and try to resolve the situation. We visited peacefully with many of the other members in the bar area, had a couple of cocktails (that we, the members purchased, respecting all of the bar rules - happily and understandably). We left the island around 830p. We left embarrassed that NCYC would treat any GUEST in such an
