NCYC Beacon
February 2022
From the Flag Commodore Dale Hall, Vice Commodore Brian Fringer, Rear Commodore Scott Greenfelder
This year we are trying something a little bit different. Instead of the Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore and myself duplicating a lot of comments in our monthly articles, we are working together as your Flag to bring one, complete message to the entire NCYC Family. We will attempt to address the important issues of the club and provide some insight to things that are taking place on the near horizon. We are also adding a section to the Beacon that highlights all the prospective members that have paid their $250 application fee for membership. We will publish those names in the Beacon (and on the hallway bulletin board once we open the club) prior to conducting an interview for membership.
We would like to welcome everyone to 2022 and wish everyone a Very Happy New Year. We know that you are looking forward to 2022 and all the opportunities that a new year brings. It is truly an honor for Scott, Brian, and me to serve as your Flag this year. A special thank you to Past Commodore Glenn and his lady Sheila for their tireless work serving the club and providing leadership through another very challenging year. Once again, the entire club pulled off a very successful boating season and had a lot of fun was had in the process. As we move into the third year of this pandemic, we would like to take a moment to remember the loved ones and the members of our NCYC family that we have lost. In preparation for warmer weather and readying our boats for the season, please take the time to help each other and treat your fellow members with respect and compassion as we work together to ensure everyone’s safety on the island. We have a lot going on in 2022 and we will need a lot of preparation to get ready for our opening weekend on Friday May 27th, 2022. There are several large projects planned for the Elite Brigade and pre-opening work weekends. We will be: ● Replacing the walkway between The Boutique & D Dock ● Inspecting and replacing any rotten wood on walkways on the entire island ● Installing several new electrical pedestals and checking the breakers and connections on all remaining pedestals ● Replacing the railing on A Dock & Battleship Row ● Replacement of the generator (as soon as the supplier can ship it to us) ● We will also be completing a couple of projects left over from 2021 including: ● Dock Extension at the corner of A dock & Battleship Row ● Moisture mitigation from under the clubhouse
For all of our members that are enjoying the winter somewhere warm as well as all our members that are spending a few weeks there on vacation, please travel safe and we look forward to an early Spring and seeing you all at the Elite Brigade weekends.
Our terrific trio of Fleet Captions, Susan Burkhardt, Sharon Javery & Kim Miedema are planning 3 exciting rendezvous for us. The dates and locations are listed below. Please plan your schedule to attend all three, they are going to be great.
Club Island
June 10th – June 12th
Ford Yacht Club
July 15th – July 17th
St. Clair Harbor
Aug. 12th – Aug. 14th
As we look to the Spring, please plan to stay engaged and look for opportunities to volunteer, participate and most importantly ensure we are moving the NCYC in the right direction. If you are interested in managing one of the projects listed above, please reach out to any member of the Board of Directors or the Flag. We welcome your ideas and expertise to ensure all these projects are completed on-time and within budget. Thank you to everyone in advance for your dedication this year and for finding ways to use your talent to better the club.

A Message from Chaplain Mark Javery
On January 12th member Larry Gierlowski who had been in hospice at home passed away. Keep his wife Adrienne, daughter Laurie, and their families in your thoughts and prayers. On January 13th member Norma Smith who had been battling health issues also passed away at home. Keep her husband Greg, son Shawn, daughter Stephanie in your thoughts and prayers. You notice I call our NCYC membership family … ..In my contact with our families who have been experiencing loss there is always mention of how appreciative they are of the thoughts, prayers, concern, and compassion they receive from their friends, “family” at our club. We are part of something more than a building on an island … ..may it ever be so. Don’t forget to pray for the health and safety of our membership over these winter months. Whether enjoying our beautiful winter wonderland or traveling to warmer climates may the good Lord bless and keep you.
A PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR:
Thank You Lord for giving me The brand new year ahead. Help me live the way I should As each new day I tread.
Give me gentle wisdom That I might help a friend, Give me strength and courage So a shoulder I might lend. The year ahead is empty, Help me fill it with good things. Each new day filled with joy And happiness it brings. Amen
Frst Mates Mention
January 2022
Happy New Year 2022
I always love New Year’s and the opportunity to make this year even better than the year before. I think that January is the most optimistic month of the year. This year maybe you want to try something new instead of traditional New Year’s resolutions. This year look for things you can add to your life. Plan to take more time for yourself, spend more time with friends and family, volunteer more, spend more time on the boat or better yet more time on the island! Whatever you are dreaming of for 2022, I hope that you are able to enjoy the journey!! Make plans, make a date, set some goals …even if that goal is more relaxation…this year take more time for yourself doing what you love to do! Please remember to send in your 2022 First Mates application this month. The 2022 First Mates application, letter and information on the First Mates included in your 2022 Annual Membership Packages that were sent out in late December. Any questions regarding membership should be sent to our Membership Director Colleen Hall (810)512-4545 (Home) 586-536-4220 (Cell).
I know that this year’s First Mates board is working to make Summer 2022 fantastic!

Jill Romatz The NCYC Board of Directors recognizes Jill Romatz as Member of the Month. Jill's work on the Commodore's Ball, invitations, favors, programs as well as hats, pins, flags and all the accessories for the Board of Directors is a demonstration of going way above and beyond. Ted Marini The NCYC Board of Directors recognizes Ted Marini as Member of the Month for January. When Coka- Cola was unable to assist with winterizing the system in the club house, Ted stepped up and came to the club after our Fin Runners were out of the water to winterize the pop lines. Ted came to the island with his grandson and took care of the entire project and then pulled his boat out of the water for the winter after they finished. Thank you, Ted, for everything you do!
