July 2022 Flag Comments
From The Flag We would like to thank our great NCYC membership for making June a great month on the island. The weather has been unseasonably warm which has resulted in the boating season getting off to a faster than normal pace. The weekend activities at the club have been very well attended throughout the month of June and even the weekdays have seen many members staying overnight to enjoy the beauty of the island and the comradery of our membership. Many members continue to work tirelessly to maintain the island and the clubhouse, and we can’t thank you enough for all the hard work. Membership continues to grow at NCYC and this month our Membership Director, Marie Pepin, developed and printed cards that contain the membership application information. The application for new members has been moved on-line and the card provides all the necessary information for a potential new member to apply. If someone is interested in membership, please ask a bar tender to locate these 2 ½ inch square pocket cards in the drawer behind the bar. The Flag & Board of Directors are closely monitoring our membership numbers and will start a wait list as we near our maximum number of boating members, which is 210. If you have been thinking of introducing a potential member to NCYC, please do not hesitate to get their application started. Last month we mentioned the unforeseen circumstances surrounding the Blue Awning between A Dock & B Dock. A new design was used to secure the supports for the awning and some very high-quality welding was performed at the peak to ensure a long-lasting repair. Take-a-look and we think you will agree that the awning has not looked this good since it was brand new. Thanks to the team that pulled this project together early in June and completed it on June 12, just before the hot days hit Southeast Michigan. When you see Kevin Verkest, Jim Douglas, Steve Olsen; Pete Poirier on the island, please thank them for their great work. NCYC has sponsored two charity boat rallies already this summer providing our club the ability to give back to the community. Special thanks to P/C Randy and Linda Pagel and Randy’s son Randall for organizing The Parkinson Foundation Fun
Run on June 8th. The harbor was completely full and the event was very well attended. NCYC was a big part of this year’s success which helped generated over $80,000 for the Michigan Parkinson Foundation. On June 29th the Water Warriors sponsored the Special Olympics Fun Run. Special thanks to members Dave & Debbie DuVernay for all their hard work to pull off another successful event this year. Their dedication is very much appreciated for such a worthy cause. The ladies of NCYC held an outstanding Lady’s Week June 19th – 24th. Special thanks to Colleen Braun, Christa Betts and Susan Burkhardt for organizing all the activities and hosting over 40 participants. The week received rave reviews and First Lady Colleen Hall would like to thank all the Lady’s that attended and spent time together. June also ushered in our first NCYC Rendezvous hosted by our fabulous Fleet Caption Team of Kim Miedema, Sharon Javery and Susan Burkhardt. The rendezvous included over 15 couples from NCYC and a great time was had in Port Huron. The city of Port Huron has recovered well from the 2 years of Covid with many new bars and restaurants opening as well as many points of interest. The Saturday activities included tours of the Fort Gratiot Light Station and Huron Lightship, an Art Fair and Farmers Market. Although the rain dampened the concerts on Friday evening the weekend was great fun and well planned by the Fleet Captain Team. The NCYC Boating Season is off to a very fast start, and we would encourage everyone to review the Schedule of Events and get your calendar blocked and get involved for the remainder of the Summer. We look forward to seeing you on the island. Your Flag
A Message from Chaplain Mark Javery
Again this month our membership appears to be doing well. As of this writing I am not aware of anyone in our membership over the last month who has suffered a loss, is in the hospital, is sick, or in distress. Continue to keep our brothers and sisters who have had their partners, their children, close family and friends pass in your thoughts and prayers. Let them know you care with a hug, a card, whatever may be appropriate for you, as mourning and healing is a long and so painful journey.
As we celebrate our countries Independence Day take time to reflect on God’s goodness to our nation and the freedoms we enjoy.
My thoughts on what Independence Day can mean to a Christian….. By daily repentance, sorrow over sin, confessing our sin, and daily understanding that God, for the sake of His Son, Jesus Christ, has forgiven our sins and no longer holds any of them against us. This is true freedom. For Christians, every day is Independence Day. Galatians 5:13 ESV For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but though love serve one another.

Commodore’s Comments
Commodore, Dale Hall
Commodore’s Comments Elite Brigades have been going well and we sincerely appreciate all the directors getting engaged in your particular areas, and getting people out for the Elite Brigades. We are now up to our two official work parties and I think we are good shape. We have had people going to the island during the week to get things ready. V/C Brian got the water leak in front of the Clubhouse resolved this week so we don’t have to worry about that rupturing mid-year right in the middle of one of our big events. My phone has been ringing off the hook this week so I am looking forward to good participation the next two weekends as well. Special thanks to all of you, we got a lot of things accomplished this Spring and several things that we did not expect to have to accomplish. We are two and half weeks from our opening weekend and we are looking forward to great Steer Roast, General Membership Meeting and Flag Raising. This is great time for us to shine and please communicate with each other and reach out and ask if you need anything!

Thank you to First Mates and all the members for their hard work getting the building ready. The ceiling Project is complete. Now we will have some repair and painting to the walls upstairs
Page 7 of 9
May 12, 2022
Emergency water/gas labels are on the back window thanks to Terry Steinbacher. The back part of the kitchen has been painted. All refrigerators and freezers have been inspected and serviced as required. The 1 split system in the bar area has been inspected and repaired. The one in the boutique has been checked, and repaired. All heating and cooling should be working correctly. Upstairs hallway replaced smoke detectors with combo CO2 and Smoke. Installed CO2 3 locations downstairs, please don’t unplug for any reason. Crawl space project - this is 98% complete, we got through the winter very dry we are adding 1 intake vent to balance out the exhaust fan, and we will be done. The budget was not to exceed $10,000 I think we will come in just over $5,000.00, big savings from the original estimates of $30,000-$54,000.00 Generator Update - we are able to get an additional $5,700 from the insurance company which is great news. The pad is ready for the generator. Bad News original delivery date of May was backed up to June and now we are looking at August. Very important during power outages to keep all refrigerators and freezers closed. This should buy us 48-72 hours in the event of a power outage. Repairs are needed to the ice machine, one side is working. Please don’t turn on or off anything. Should be repaired within a week. Current ice production is adequate. If you see things that need to be fixed or replaced please text me the information @ 586-914-0711 include as much information as possible. End of Report. **** End of report**** Terry Steinmacher We have had many good things going on this spring for all to enjoy. As you look around the club you will see a lot of new improvements from the mainland to the island. I would like to thank everyone for their dedication and hard work, without that, the club would not be what it is today. Although we still have may projects to complete before the opening there are still 2 more work parties left to get your 4 hours in. So come on out and lend a helping hand where needed.
