From theEditor… TheFlagand theBoard of Directorswould like to thank all thememberswho came out for theEliteBrigade andWork Weekends this year. Mother Nature cooperatedwith us the last twoworkweekends with clear sky's&dry days, so the member volunteerswere able toget a lot of cleanup accomplish - thank you for this! Weareall looking forward to openingweekend - FittingOut Party, which I am surewill bea fun-fulfilledweekend. This holidayweekend is anticipated to bea full weekend on the Island, soplease be considerate on thedocks. As I have the pleasure of being theO.D. Officer for theweekend, if there is anything I canassist themembershipwith, please feel free to ask? Please look inside for highlights onupcoming news such as, Calendar of Events, Steer Roast, KidsDay, Club Island Rendezvous, andABYASponsoredEvents.

“If there’s noWind…Row”
Spring’shere, Summer’sNot…Water’sUp, Temperature’s Down. It’s stillWindy, you say?Can I just getmyBoat in theWater??Ok, I just had to get all of that out of my system. Let’s get theParty Started!!! Our ownBandof Brothers, theEliteBrigade, have comeandgone already this yearmaking theirmark for the rest of us to follow. They’ve readied theheavy choresandwhat’s left is putting the sparkle in theGemwe call NorthChannel. My thanksgoesout toall of youwhohavemade the call for theEliteBrigade.
It’s not always comfortablewithwind chill andovercast skies. A necessity though to clear the way for cleaning, rakingandplanting. Every jobneeds tobedoneand thismembership rises to theoccasion for the final ‘MissionAccomplished’.My thanks to thoseof youwhohavewielded rakes and shovels, cleanser and rags, polishingand tidying. It just shows thepridewe have in thisClubof ours. It affirms the senseof ownership toa place that weholddear toour hearts. Memorial Dayweekend, NCYC’SFittingOut Party, is soon tobeuponus. It’s traditionallya partyweekend for NorthChannel witheveryone jockeying for space to tieup. We areall aware of thedemand for dockage in theEast Harbor. Space is at apremiumand raftingof boats is not unheardof. Pleasebe considerateof all of ourmemberswhen takinga slip. If possibleand boat sizemakes it feasible, consider takinga spot on theWest endof the Island. It’s hard to anticipatehow crowdedwewill be for thisweekend. NorthChannel adheres toa ‘NoMember Left Behind’ policy. If thisweekend, or any other for thatmatter, you cannot finda place to tie uppleasecall theManager onDuty. TheClubhousephone is 810-794-0000.WeWILL accommodateourmembers. This year, with thewater level beingup, dockageoneither side of the Island shouldnot beaproblem. It goeswithout saying that on these kindsof weekends, it’s a ‘MembersOnly’ time. Let’s bringour guestson less busy days. As youmay havenoticed from theFanOuts in your email, NCYCSteer Roast ismakinga comeback this year. Remember theBeef Float on the Finrunner?TheCookingof theBeef in our custompit?Or theCarvingof theBeef withour very ownSignof theBeefCarver! Food handlingandpreparation is, as always, maintainedwith thehighest healthand safety standards. This is a dinner that I am fondof not only for theBeef but the funand festivity that goesalongwith it. I encourageall to attend. Pleasemake your reservationsearly tomake it easier for thosewhoareplanning it for us.
Therearea fewmembers already this year that deservementionand recognition for their efforts inaddingvalue toNorthChannel. Value itself comes inmany forms and is not always in the traditional sense. The following folkshave shown their prideand interest inour Club. P/C Rick and Jill Romatzwearmany hats hereat NCYC and their interestsarewide. I want to thank them for another seasonof bowling they organizedwhichbrings somany of our members together during theoff-season. Jeff Edgerlyandhis team take to the slopesat ShantyCreekResorts also in theoff-season. Heorganizesa ski/snowmobileweekend that gets our folks out andadds to the fact that we area ‘year-round’ Club toutingactivities that pique the interest ofmost everyone. Inadifferent facet of value that I referred to is a couple I’d like to thank for their interest andpride inour Club. HythamandNancyAljidaaremembers of a few years now. Always ready to helpwith whatever is asked, HythamandNancyenjoy Island visitswith their family. Most recently, with theManagers’ Apt. upgradeat hand, Hythamsaw theoutmodedkitchenand cabinets inneed of care. With the skill of owningandoperatinghis own cabinet company, hehand-madeand installed cabinetsand countertops that you cannow seewitha visit upstairs to theapartment.
It is humbling to seehow folks like these I havementionedgive so freely of themselves to this Clubof ours. ThankYou. Thank you so verymuch.
Time togetmy reservations in for theSteer Roast.Get your work at homedone, your boat polishedand in thewater andmeetme for FittingOut 2014.

What happened toApril? Oh, yea, we set thenewall-time record for the snowiest winter in recordedhistory. That is all just amemory now. We can finally focuson springand readyingour boatsand club for 2014. TheEliteBrigadehas begunwork and the turnout of our generous, volunteering, sweat equityNCYCmembershiphas beengreat…………as always. We still havework parties for all to enjoyand catchuponall of thewinter news fromour fellow members. For Sandi and I it wasn’t a very goodApril. Sandi hada full knee replacement onThursday the10thof April and shewas released from thehospital on the followingSunday to start the recovery and rebuildingprocess.
If that wasn’t enough, just after wehadgottenhomewe receivednews of her dad’spassing in Illinois. It’s difficult times like these thatmake you realize theenormityof the loving family of NCYC. I hadbeen toldby severalmembers how important theNCYC family has been through some tough times in their lives. I heard theirwords but I now realize that I didn’t truly understand thegravity of those stories. Theoutpouringof loveand support fromour extended family at NCYCwas and is huge. The calls, cards, flowers, andnotesof encouragement seemednever ending. That support touchedour hearts and raisedour spirits helpingus through it all. Thank you from thebottomof our hearts!!! With all of thedistractionwehad, wehavenot even started thinkingof gettingour boat in the water, that will come. Howeverwe areparticipating in theEliteBrigadeandwork parties so that we canbe sure the club is ready for all toenjoy, come joinus. Youwill beglad youdid.
See you soon,
R/CChuckStroh

With theheavywindswehad thiswinter, its goodwehad the tree serviceout last year to clean up trees. Everyone shoulduse their goodvisions to thinkabout how to spend the clubmoney in agoodway.
