Commodore’s Comments

Commodore, Glenn Nixon

Sheila and I hope all of our members had a restful, safe and happy holiday break. We look back on 2020 with enormous gratitude for the support, encouragement, dedication and hard work of our membership allowing us all to continue to enjoy, albeit with some disappointing restrictions, our Island Paradise. For Sheila and I, spending time at the Club has always been an escape and welcome break from stress and constant demands of working life. Our boating life helps us to slow down a bit and invest time into something with untold value - our relationships with those we love and share a common passion with. I cannot fully express my gratitude to P/C Bill Calihan and Lady Teri for their herculean dedication and hard work under very stressful circumstances. I feel P/C Calihan and his performance during this pandemic will be remembered as one of the most successful in the history of the Club. Sheila and I are Looking Forward with Great Expectation. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your Commodore for 2021. I encourage our members to look toward the 2021 boating season with high expectations for our Club. With the swift rollout of a COVID vaccine, I am hopeful we see life gradually return to normal by April or May. In any case, I can assure everyone your Club leadership will work hard to provide access to our Club and amenities while keeping our members safe as we did in 2020. As always, the hard work and support of the membership is critical to keeping our Club operating smoothly. Again, thanks to all who worked extra hard to make last year a success. And, thanks in advance to those members who I am confident will step up and ensure the successful preparation and operation of our Club regardless of the challenges we may face. My pledge to the membership as Commodore for 2021 remains to always act in the best interest of the Club and its Members. I continually seek ways to leave the Club in better condition than when I arrived. I encourage all Members to make suggestions as well as concerns known to the Board and Flag so that we may act and constantly improve our boating life and cherished relationships with our fellow Members.
