North Channel Yacht Club October 2023 Beacon
From The Flag Well, another successful season is now officially in the books!! The final preparations to close the club went very smoothly thanks to all the help from our members. She is buttoned up safe and sound for the winter. We think this was a great season at NCYC, and as the flag, we know it is not us but the board and members who make everything possible here. So, to all of you who put in your required time, we say thank you. A very special thank you to so many of you, (way too many to mention here), who went over and above the minimum requirements to keep this club going strong. A special thank you to the First Mates, and Ancient Mariners for the work they do and the donations they have made to the club. We hope you made and have a bunch of new memories from NCYC 2023. As a flag, we know that a successful year is one where our members enjoy the season and as a flag and board, we move the club forward in a positive way. With the new Seawall, Walkways, Garage, Walk-In Cooler, Point of Sale System, Fixing the WiFi and, adding outdoor cameras we hope you agree that we accomplished our goals. Again, thank you for all you do, Your Flag,
Brian Fringer

A Message from Chaplain Mark Javery
CHAPLAIN NOTES OCTOBER 2023
Please keep P/C William Bauer in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers at home. He had been hospitalized at Troy Beaumont where he was treated for several ailments.
As always remain in prayer for those in our NCYC family who continue their journeys with chronic illnesses.
A praise item to report is that P/C Denise Huntley related to me this week, that although her treatment still has a long road ahead, that she was coping better with the side effects. Prayer matters…… General George S Patton even acknowledged this when he stated during World War 2, “Those who pray do more for the world than those who fight; and if the world goes from bad to worse, it is because there are more battles than prayer.” Thankfully he also believed in strength and the warrior to overcome evil and the rest is history. I had a beautiful autumn poem lined up to share but with all the distress going on in our world I felt like I should share more. Lately I have had a few students wanting to talk about feeling hopeless. They feel that it doesn’t matter if they graduate or not as the world seems to be destined for oblivion. I thank God for the opportunity to share with them and I
remind them that history is full of wars and disasters, natural and man made, that have taken many lives, brought down civilizations, bringing many changes to people’s lives. Some of the changes are for the worse and some surprisingly for the better. From a biblical perspective these things are the result of living in a fallen world. But also, from a biblical perspective they are the pains of a world awaiting redemption by its Creator (Romans 8:18-25). I share that the peace I have is through my faith in God. Yes, God allows these events and many argue God cannot exist in light of so much suffering. I don’t argue that these events aren’t part of his will or are a judgment against this world. The bible is clear that God is sovereign over all, the good and the "bad things.” Who are we to assume to know what God should allow to accomplish his good and wise purposes. The most common command in the Bible is “do not be afraid.” God has not abandoned his creation; he remains engaged in our circumstances and hearts if we allow him in. John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you: my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
