Vice Commodore Bill Burkhardt

Summer is flying by already August, hard to believe seems like just a few weeks ago we were opening the club. We have seen great participation at Kid’s Day, great job by the entire Romantz team. Friday nights have been jamming serving well over 150 dinners most weeks. Which brings us to the next topic. Manners, we have encountered several instances of rude behavior lately. Most seem to be guests. Reminder as members it is our job to make sure our guests are well behaved or asked to leave. Service can get slow; we have a small commercial kitchen that can only put out so many dinners in any 30-minute period. Suggestions stagger your arrival time and most importantly be patient. The food is great and the team works very, very hard. Awning Update - By the time you are reading this the awning should be up and ready to go. We have a Save-The-Date…..the 2025 Commodore’s Ball will be on January 11th. The block is open for reservations, and will also be hosting a dinner event at War Water Brewery on Friday, Jan 10th. If you call in make sure you call the main line at the Inn.

Rear Commodore Terry Steinmacher Hello again fellow members, as most of you know by now, we unfortunately ended up on the wrong

side of the firecracker over by Gull Island and unfortunately ran over rocks and had to be towed in heading to our first rendezvous of the season at SCYC. That defiantly took some wind out of our sails for Friday evening but we were able to participate Saturday and enjoy the wonderful weather and camaraderie that only NCYC members can provide. However with our main source of lake transportation down for a few weeks we are very thankful that we were able to participate in the dingy poker run for our first time and I would like to thank all involved for hosting such a wonderful event. We have just completed our OD weekend July 12-14 and would like to thank all our work team, and everyone that showed up and made it extra special, I believe a good time was had by all. I know myself and Kathy are going to need a couple of days to catch up. As we look forward to kid’s day I understand there will be some fun called Soak the Flag so come one, come all and let’s see what you got! As everyone is aware by now we have had a couple of incidences that happened at the club that the board had to react to. May I please suggest that all members’ new and old please read or reread our latest versions of our policy’s and bylaws that can be found in the 2024 roster. If something is unclear or you cannot find what you are looking for, or just have a question please reach out to me or any Flag Officer, or a Board Member. We are all here to help.

Commodore Rick and his First Lady Jill have a fun filled schedule coming up, so please get involved as much as you can and show your support for our Commodore. If you have had any thoughts of getting involved with any of the Events/OD and are looking for some direction please reach out to one of us and we will get you sent in the right direction. We would love to see you at the club where great friendships begin.

A Message from Chaplain Mark Javery

Since the last Beacon was published, member Kathy Fowler has had more than her share of hospital time. As many of you know Kathy had been in severe pain for some time leading to a hospital stay and surgery. The surgery went as well as expected and thankfully she is home. Storm heaven with prayers that her infection will heal and that she will feel Gods peace as she awaits two additional surgeries. P/C Denise Huntley has started a new round of chemotherapy in her cancer journey so continue to uphold her in your prayers also. When we see Denise around the club her smile and attitude are shining through, this is a witness to God’s peace of which I spoke.

Pray for Terry and Tom also as they care for and worry about their spouses.

Many of our NCYC family continue to grieve the loss of loved ones. I am often told how touched our members are by the outpouring of love from their NCYC family……. keep up the good work.

Summer Love ~ By Deborah Ann Belka I love the summer’s rays, shinning from the sun the warmth of laughter

with children having fun. I love summer’s breezes, gently drifting in the air the sounds of pure delight when the weather is fair. I love summer’s laziness, the strolls down the lane the sound of peacefulness upon summer’s gentle rain. I love summer’s smells, fragrant with memories the happy thoughts wafting of BBQ’s , friends and families. I love summertime, it’s smells, sights, its sounds I love that God blesses me when summer comes around!

Commodore’s Comments Commodore, Rick Romatz This Board continues to show its commitment to teamwork, to work together to get the job done. I think we are having a great ride through the 2024 boating season. Looking back at June through early July thank you PC Brian McEvoy and team for another great Surf and Turf event which sold out within a week. I was not there but I’m told there was a new experience to the annual NCYC Ladies Week Jill and many are still talking about it. Thank you, Christa and team, for an awesome Hoe Down Party. Shelly and Gary did an awesome job with the 1 st Rendezvous at SCYC on Harsens Island. Looking forward to what they have planned for the next 2 rendezvous, Cove Marina and Lexington. Also thank you Christa, VC Burkardt, Jeannie Kidwell, Greg Smith, PC Hall and teams for an Awesome well attended Poker Run, and PC Pagel for another great July 4 th Celebration. An awesome time was had by all.

Looking at this agenda there are many things to review and approve and I’m confident this Board will make the right decisions.

Vice Commodore, Bill Burkhardt

Vice Commodore’s Comments

Awning Update - The box has been opened. There are special roof brackets that we needed to order separately which I have done. Installation does not look too difficult, I see this getting done over the next couple of weeks.

We have a Save-The-Date …..the 2025 Commodore’s Ball will be on January 11th. The block is open for reservations and will also be hosting a dinner event at War Water Brewery on Friday, Jan 10th.

Rear Commodore, Terry Steinmacher
